Section IV Collecting your Kit
Collection of the kit is a fairly straightforward event. The instructions sent out by Robin Hood Sports Car's are comprehensive and easy to follow. The loading area is fairly cramped but adequate. On arrival you will be marshaled into a parking spot. Go to the cash desk straight-away and tell them you have arrived, as no one will come looking for you !
Do not forget your money in the manner requested and your order confirmation letter. Take all the information supplied by RHSC's and a copy of your original order plus any correspondence just in case there are any problems.
The kit comes out of the warehouse on a couple of pallet trucks and a very comprehensive check list is provided, also a pictogram of the sheet metal parts. This has quite small print and it is suggested that you print out your own list in very large print and take a Stabilo type marker pen. This makes checking off the contents easy, do not forget that it may be pouring with rain and windy, so take suitable wet weather gear. (note contents may change over time and vary from model to model) Another good idea is to take a clear A4 plastic folder to protect the paperwork in case of rain. The yard is open. Note that there are no Toilet or Restaurant facilities.
Note:- There are a number of variations regarding the Sierra Gearbox output splines. It is a good idea to carefully check the outside diameter and the number of splines. If in any doubt check with RHSC's well before collection to ensure that the correct item is supplied in your kit. Double check this against the supplied unit on the day of collection. All variations can be supplied if pre-warned. It is a long way to go back if the Propshaft does not fit.
The " Standard " Propshaft Outside Diameter at the Gearbox end = 35mm, Gearbox Splined Shaft Outside Diameter = 27mm, Number of Splines 25, Gearbox Output Splines are Male. The Gearbox end of the Propshaft has Internal Splines.
Note :- If you have ordered 61/2 J wheels make sure you are getting the wider front and rear mudguards. As mentioned elsewhere the standard size fronts do fit but the rears DO NOT. The wider rears have a W cut into the plain portion between the notched section. Wider rear mudguards are mandatory for 61/2 J wheels despite the extra cost.
Do not be afraid to ask if parts seem to be missing. Some are hard to locate or identify. On site staff will help you find it or make up the missing part with no hassle. It is a long way back if you find a large part missing or damaged some weeks or even months later. Check Stainless Panels for scratches or dents. Easy to see on the INSIDE surface.
Take rope, half a dozen large tote boxes and some bubble wrap or old curtains etc.
The preferred transport seems to be a Luton Van, the one with the body extension over the cab. The 2B chassis fits in easily at 45 degs. Take a strong friend. It really is a two man job to get the Chassis into the van.
When you eventually get to the SVA stage you will be required to stamp the chassis with a "VIN" number. The DVLA like to link this VIN number to the Robin Hood Invoice Number. I used the RH Invoice Number "2B2641" plus some added random numbers up to a toatal of 17.Yes 17. eg:- 2B264123123456456 this was accepted by the DVLA, SVA, MOT and Insurance, but do keep the RH Invoice. You will need it.
Appendix I :- Large Print List (this list refers to 2B kits sold circa 2002/3 and may be obsolete due to recent improvements May 2004)
