In August 2000, the French magazine Looping published an article on a slope soarer with an astonishing flight performance, one which could even be described as "revolutionary" since it was able to carry out many completely new aerobatics. This model known as Madslide opened up the path towards 3D stunt flying with slope soarers. This concept was born from the imagination of a brilliant designer, Benoit Paysant -Le Roux, a very accomplished pilot (Benoit has for several years been a member of the French F3A team), a talented professional designer, and a careful observer, since he is able to analyze the reactions of a model in flight and to identify the parameters on which design changes can be carried out to increase performance. Benoit is also an open, generous and passionate person. This has been demonstrated by his generosity in publishing plans for the original Madslide 1.5m and the larger Madslide 2300. Compact and light, it was possible to carry out aerobatics in a very small space, reacting to the slightest movement of its very large control surfaces. Due to its small size it lacked inertia, and perhaps some precision. Benoit was persuaded to design a larger version which preserved the excellent qualities of the original 1.5m version and gave the opportunity to improve the design at the same time. Madslide 2300 was the result, with a span of 2.35m. Mathieu Davy flew many times with Benoit as they are both members of the Cherbourg Model Club where they fly regularly together, both on the flat fields or the slopes of the Cotentin Peninsular in Northern France. Mathieu was able to benefit from his experience as a pilot and manufacturer, and is an originator par excellence. When Mathieu learned that Benoit had commenced construction of the larger Madslide, he decided to build a similar model at the same time. It is thanks to Mathieu that the plan is now available to all modellers in such a clear and concise form. He has spent many hours on this effort, hours that could have been spent building his own models. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for this work Wishing that he can continue to smell the wind and breathe the sea air whilst sitting in the heather, following with his eyes our faithful sailplanes, which cavort with the gulls and tease the wind. Long may it continue.

This is the model that started it all. First presented in the columns of the French magazine Looping. It has been copied many times usually without the designers permission.



Shown here by Mathieu is the "King size" version with a span of 2.35m.
The wing is built in one piece to reduce weight and give maximum strength and ridgity.

The servo's must be fast and powerful to operate the large control surfaces.
Closed loop cables for elevator and rudder control.


The all moving tailplane is fully articulated.
The tailplane is capable of a full 180 degs of movement, +/- 90 degs.


Check your clearances for full and free movement in all positions.

The aileron servo is partly buried in the wing.


The large canopy is a characteristic feature of Madslide.
The complete wing is located in the fuselage after removing the canopy.

The hinges are of the "stick" type with the control surfaces beveled on both sides.

The prototype of Madslide has a wing cut from white polystyrene foam, reinforced top and bottom with two tubular carbon fibre spars. The wing is simply covered in white Kraft paper, with no other structure. This method of construction has been proven over a long period by the PLR family and members of the Cherbourg club. It resists all flight stresses even on large acrobatic 3D models.

The decoration remains faithful to the original but the colours are different.
The grey colour scheme is not always visible, especially on cloudy days.

The fuselage is a fibreglass moulding and the wing is foam.

The wing on the JR kit is in two sections.

The Polyslide is a "foamie" covered in reinforced packing tape. Construction is much faster than the traditional balsa version. One is not afraid to take risks with such a cheap version that bounces !!


The tailplane and fin are in Coroplast.
Two servo's are placed at the rear of the fuselage.


The main difference in the JR kit is the fitting of the wing on the underside of the fuselage.
Just because the construction is quick do not rush the decor.
