Instructions on how to use Alan J Munday's Data Base Indexing Tool
If you do not have Microsoft Excel installed on your PC or perhaps Open Office etc, creating a Spreadsheet based Index poses some problems. This tool enables you to produce a file called a comma seperated value or .csv that can be "inserted" into any spreadsheet. Before you go any further it is suggested that you print a copy of this page and use it to Install & Use the Indexing Tool.
Click on the link at the bottom of the page and then click on RUN, then RUN again then OK. Click on the button or follow the instructions to change the directory. on your PC where Indexer will be located (probably not needed) then click OK. This will install the Indexer Program in your PC Progam Files directory. On your Desktop in Windows XP click Start (lower LH corner) and All Programs. The Indexer Tool is a little green box and should be the last entry. Indexer v1.0 Click on this and the Program opens. When you finish it will add a desktop icon automatically for next time.
You can now start to use the Indexer Program.
Select Create a New CSV File
Enter Number of Fields (9) in our case
Nine Blank Fields Appear Enter (1) (line) No (2) Year (3) Month (4) Page (5) Title (6) Author (7) Group (8) Type & (9) Keyword
Then go to the next record using UP ( this box is in in the middle at the top under the word devised)
When you have completed the first record just keep on going using the UP button and TAB Key to move to the next field.
KEEP SAVING YOUR RECORDS to a convenient location.
You can return to a partially completed index using the Edit Existing CSV File Button
E-mail the completed .csv file to me at a_c_usher@yahoo.co.uk
Try a few dummy runs and KEEP SAVING.
