Horton’s Guide to Britain’s Railways in Feature Films Paperback – 192 pages. Author Glyn Horton ISBN 978-1-85794-287-3
This is a most unusual book, in fact it is probably unique. It describes in some detail the railway content of more than 900 feature films, mostly British, although where appropriate other countries are included, USA, France etc. There are a few black & white ”stills” but otherwise it is mainly text. It covers a period embracing the very early silent films through to the present day, including the Irish railways and the London Underground. This is not just an endless list of boring facts but includes some very interesting notes on locations, locomotives and some observations on the usual mistakes that seem to be a feature of many films. The book is right up to date with the inclusion of the Harry Potter films and several recent James Bond epics. This book would appeal to all sorts of readers, in particular railway enthusiasts looking for entertainment that contains an interesting railway content or modellers looking for period detail. Many films have unwittingly preserved railway history that would otherwise have been lost, with this handy reference you now know where to look.
